New Features in Toad Data Modeler v. 3.5
- Support on Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit and 7 64-bit operating system
- Support for DB 2 LUW 9.7
- Support for PostgreSQL 8.4
- Templates now allow users to use pre-defined templates, customizable templates or Toad templates to save time and give you greater flexibility.
- Application Variables allowing users to use them for:
- defining default values (e.g. relationship names - <%ParentTableName%>_<%ChildTableName%>),
- user templates created in Template Editor,
- properties that contain SQL code (SQL, Before Script, After Script etc.)
- Object Viewer has been enhanced, allowing for quick searching of objects in the model and easier access to editing of model properties
- Naming conventions have been updated to allow for the deployment and management of naming standards to save time.
- Default Values dialog has been simplified significantly so users can define default values for new objects of their models comfortably.
- Macros functionality has been enhanced by possibility to use visual components for creation of macros. Also, users are allowed to add their macro to pop-up menu of particular object and use enhanced scripting functionality while creating macros. New sample macros Infer Relationships and Alphabetic Autolayout are available in Macros menu.
- Alter Script generation enhancements greatly reduces the steps and time needed to compare a model to a database and generate an alter script.
Reverse Engineering Wizard has been updated by new options such as Reload Aliases, Divide Objects on Workspace by User/Schema and improved Filter functionality.
- SQL/DDL Script Generation offers new enhancements such as possibility to drop keys (primary, alternate), indexes, relationships and triggers outside the Create Table statement OR possibility to generate keys, indexes or triggers without the necessity to generate tables or views and more. Users can change order of generated objects from the DDL Script Generation dialog directly.
- The new version brings great new GUI enhancements such as insert of image to Workspace (WS), highlighting key attributes and selecting a color for them, possibility to select parent and child objects on the WS at one jump, option to set the same size of selected objects on the WS and much more.
Upgrade and Compatibility
Toad Data Modeler 3.5 allows you to open *.DM2 and *.DMX files of Toad Data Modeler 2. (DMX file is a DM2 file in XML format.) This applies only to models of database systems that are supported by both applications - Toad Data Modeler 2 and Toad Data Modeler version 3.
It is not possible to open models created in Toad Data Modeler 3 in Toad Data Modeler 2.
